Zbrush Treeman

Posted by Aaron Panagos on January 22, 2009

Here’s my first ever high-poly 3D model, base was built in 3DsMax and the high-poly was made in Zbrush (which isn’t as high a poly count as I would like, but my poor old computer can’t handle a further subdivide).  I’m very pleased that the skill set from traditional sculpting applies very directly to Zbrush/Mudbox modelling – it’s just learning a new medium, not a whole new art form, which is a relief.  There are still little technical procedures that I have to get used to in terms of assimilating all the maps and mesh into a game-ready object, but the creation process itself is going shockingly well. This is still in progress, but I like where it’s going.

Busy Busy Busy

I’m working away at rebuilding my website and putting together my 3D portfolio.  I’m excited about how things are going.  These are a couple sketches that I’m planning to build in 3DS Max and the create normals for in Zbrush or Mudbox - they’re designed to give me some dramatic surfaces to work with so I can explore the normal mapping process a bit more thoroughly, I want a better sense of what it’s limitations are.
